Community Life
HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE
The mission of the Hospitality Committee is to foster a welcoming atmosphere for our members and guests, and to further our community values of friendliness, warmth, and participation via our weekly onegs and other food related community events.
Activities
Oneg duty twice a year is a requirement for all Adat Shalom members. The Hospitality Committee oversees the complex organization and execution of our weekly co-op style potluck onegs. We also oversee other events that involve food for the entire community. This involves keeping the oneg instructions up to date, creating a master calendar and assigning oneg dates, troubleshooting, supervising volunteers, and ordering bagels, cream cheese, challah, and wine. We kasher the kitchen for Passover. We keep the kitchen stocked with supplies, do our best to keep it organized and oversee its functioning in coordination with the Executive Director. We help coordinate the onegs for B'nai Mitzvah families and set food related policy in consultation with the clergy, the Religious Practices Committee, and the Board. We also plan events that are food or kitchen related, such as the Books & Cooks fundraiser.
