RELIGIOUS PRACTICES COMMITTEE

While the following may sound dry, the Religious Practices Committee sets the tone for our entire community, and makes policy that will affect the majority of our members. Each of the following areas is integral to the entire functioning of Adat Shalom. Religious Practices meets monthly, and welcomes all members' input, no matter what his/her background.

Religious Practices Mission Statement

  1. Ensure the smooth functioning of our services and coordinate all religious activities, including holiday services and Shabbat services.
  2. Maintain our Torahs and other ritual objects.
  3. Educate our community with regard to basic religious practices of Jewish communities, other Reconstructionist communities, and Adat Shalom.
  4. Maintain a schedule of Divrei Chinuch ("Words of Education" by our members during services).
  5. Promote lay participation in services.
  6. Encourage creative approaches to liturgy by clergy and lay members.
  7. Examine and review policy with regard to Bnai Mitzvah.
  8. Examine and review other ritual policies.
  9. Coordinate a schedule of ushers.
