Creative Arts

The creative arts have the power to transform. They provide a sense of community through artistic expression. They are another avenue of approach to the Divine.—Mordecai Kaplan

Boys with DrumsDO YOU…
…ever dream about expressing your creative self but aren't sure how or where to begin?
…want to help enhance the cultural life of Adat Shalom?
Yes? Then come join your friends on the Creative Arts Committee!

Help us brainstorm and craft our presentations for the year. Release that dancer, producer, musician, poet, artist, or actor within! So whether it's "SmArts on Sunday," our annual Purim shpiel, trips to Theatre J, or any of our activities, you can work with us to make them happen - or just come & enjoy the show. Upcoming programs:

Save The Date!! Sunday, December 9, 2007 "From Gifted Hands" art show and sale

Sunday, December 9, 10:30 am- 4:00 pm: Find beautiful, useful gifts for Chanukah and beyond, all the work of more than 35 talented local artists and artisans, many of whom are members of our congregation. Want to show or sell your work? We need volunteers, too, to help us set up & break down the event. Please contact "Gifted" chair Nan Fuhrman.

Adat Shalom goes to Theater J

Join us downtown for two more Sunday matinees at the DCJCC's award-winning , risk-taking Theater J. On January 6, we'll see " Shlemiel the First," a wild, slapstick concoction of mistaken identity and klezmer, inspired by Nobel Prize winner I.B. Singer's whimsical tales of Chelm, the "Village of Fools." On March 30, DC's own Robert Prosky and his two sons are featured in Arthur Miller's "The Price, " a scorching, Tony Award nominee for drama that probes two brothers’ long-repressed dreams, resentments, and legacy of unfortunate choices. Both plays at 3:00 pm.

Cost: $47 each play per person ; $42 age 65 +. $5 discount per ticket with a group of 10 or more. To sign up for one or for both plays, make check payable to Peggy Davidson (note "Theater J" on memo line and on envelope) and mail to: Davidson, 5 Hall Ct., Potomac, MD 20854. For more information, contact Peggy Davidson.

Purim Shpiel Stikes Again! Thursday evening, March 20

Take a trip to old Shushan as our merry band of Adat Shalom Purim Shpielers regale you with songs of Esther's derrring-do and Haman's perfidy. Broadway melodies never sounded so good! Watch this space for more detailed information in the months to come.
