Donation Opportunities

Jews often mark events, both happy and sad, by making appropriate contributions. These contributions link the event to something larger, carrying a sense of permanence and continuity. Most of us choose to mark significant occasions through contributions to the synagogue — occasions such as births, deaths, yahrtzeits, anniversaries, B’nai Mitzvah, graduations, and other such milestones. Below are the various funds to which you may contribute, knowing that your gift will be both appreciated and put to good use.

Donating Online

You may use the following button to contribute to Adat Shalom online, either using your PayPal account or a credit card. After clicking the button, enter the amount you wish to contribute following "Item Price" and click "Update." After choosing to use PayPal or entering your credit card information, but before confirming your donation, please Note the Note to Seller line beneath your address; please click the "Add" link and tell us which fund you would like your donation to go to (see list below) and any dedication or other information you wish to add. Thanks for your contribution!

Donating By Mail

If you would just like to make a cash donation to Adat Shalom and charge it to your credit card, use the link above. . . . or . . . Do it the "old-fashioned way" and mail a check to Adat Shalom.

List of Funds

Adat Shalom offers a number of contribution opportunities. Please indicate which fund your contribution is for:

Rabbi's Discretionary Fund

An appropriate way to say "thank you" for rabbinic services rendered, this fund enables Rabbi Fred to give tzedakah to worthy causes and helps supplement important Adat Shalom initiatives. It is also available to families needing temporary financial support and helps send Adat Shalomers to Jewish summer camps, youth conclaves, and trips to Israel. Individuals or families facing financial challenges should contact the Rabbi directly.

Cantor's Discretionary Fund

An appropriate way to say "thank you" for cantorial services rendered, contributions to this fund will support financially stressed Adat Shalom members who wish to participate in organized Jewish life, and will help to sponsor musical training and conference experiences for musicians in our congregation who wish to further their skill and share their talent with the community. Additionally, donations will be used to bring guest artists to the community as well as to bolster our "in-house" talent.

President's Discretionary Fund

The purpose of the Fund is to streamline relatively small, uncontroversial donations by Adat Shalom (up to $250) to other non-profit organizations whose missions and goals are deemed consistent with those of Adat Shalom and to allow the publication of the name of Adat Shalom in support of that organization.

Chesed Fund

This fund will benefit the Adat Shalom Community by providing for those expenses needed to support the Pastoral Associate, Clergy and the Life Cycle Committee for cards, books, pamphlets, meals of consolation, etc. for those who are ill, grieving or welcoming a new child.

The Daniel Thursz Youth Fund

Named for the late Daniel Thursz, an Adat Shalom member and a national leader in the development of informal Jewish education, this fund has two components. The first component supports and helps subsidize Adat Shalom teens attending Jewish programming, such as Israel Quest, No’ar Hadash/JRF youth conferences, Panim el Panim, etc. Many of these programs include matching requirements with the sponsoring organizations. The second component provides support, based on financial need, to members’ children participating in Jewish youth activities, including summer camp, and is administered in a confidential manner.

Library Fund

Contributions to the Library Fund will be used to purchase books and other materials for the Adat Shalom library. A bookplate will be made for each contribution of $36 in honor or memory of a person or event.

Prayer Book Fund

You can dedicate prayer books or bibles for general congregational use and have a bookplate inserted with the inscription of your choosing. Chumashim (Bibles) can be donated for $65 each and Siddurim (Prayer Books) for $40 each. Daily prayer books may be donated for $35 each and High Holiday Machzor for $45.

Simcha/General Fund

Contributions to this fund help support the various programs of the Adat Shalom community. Special Adat Shalom cards have been printed up and will be sent with a get-well wish, condolence, congratulations, etc. A card will be sent at your request to anyone you designate (if you give us the occasion, and the recipient's name and address).

Summer Camp Scholarship Fund

This fund is for the purpose of opening the door to Jewish Summer Enrichment for Youth and for helping to make Jewish summer experiences available to as many children as possible. Parents who have a child planning to attend a residential Jewish summer camp may apply for a scholarship to support that camp experience. Eligibility criteria are as follows: At least one parent or guardian is an Adat Shalom member in good standing. Camper will attend an approved Jewish overnight summer camp in the U.S. Parents will receive or are receiving scholarship support from the camp

Torah Fund

This fund exists for the maintenance of our Torahs as well as the possible purchase of additional Torahs. Torah covers, crowns, and other ornaments will be repaired or purchased with money contributed to this fund. Each $100 donation will be acknowledged to the person being honored or the family of someone being memorialized.

Torah School Fund

This fund will enable the purchase of teacher materials, audio-visual aids, and books for the children's library. It is a wonderful way to help support the creative initiatives of the Torah School.
