The Young Families Committee plans activities for Adat Shalom families with young children (up through second grade). Our goal is to help families with young children build strong attachments to Judaism, Reconstructionism, and the Adat Shalom community while having fun and making friends.
The cornerstone of our programming is Adat Shalom's great Tot Shabbat service (10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.). Tot Shabbat is held weekly during the school year and approximately 2-3 times a month during the summer. This is a child-centered (ages birth to 5) musical Shabbat experience where, accompanied by guitar, we pray, sway, dance, clap, and tap along to Hebrew and English prayers and songs, often using sign language. We march around with stuffed toy Torahs and use instruments to experience Shabbat joy together. Please Note: this is not a drop-off program; parents are expected to attend and are encouraged to fully participate.
Each year we also host a mid-summer Shabbat in the Park, a Back to Shul Havadallah in August, and several other programs and activities oriented towards the 8 and under (older siblings always welcome).
Please check the Adat Shalom calendar for upcoming events!
Please e-mail Melissa Seldin or Randy Goldel if you would like more information or to become involved with these programs and activities.
