Israel Connection
September 2010-June 2011

The Israel Connection Committee's mission is to foster and strengthen the attachment of the congregation and its members to Israel and serve as an educational, cultural, and social forum dealing with topics and issues relating to Israel. Among the key goals of the committee is to make love of Israel a key value at Adat Shalom, as well as to support and welcome opportunities for members--including youth--to visit Israel.

Our activities are open to all--Adat Shalom members, as well as the greater Washington D.C. community. We welcome you to join us, offer ideas and help organize programs. Learn more about our connections to Israel, our efforts to support its growth, and Israel’s central significance to the Reconstructionist movement. Regular programs include:

Seret V'uga: Our acclaimed Israeli movies series. We explore current topics by screening exuberant comedies and provocative dramas from Israel. Dessert (potluck) and discussion follow each presentation. Oct 9, Dec 25, Jan 22, Apr 16, & May 14
Films are shown Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. The Dec. 25th film is preceded by a vegetarian Chinese potluck dinner. The May 24th event is seret v'yayin, Israeli yayin (wine), of course.
Israel Voices: Guest speakers representing many facets of Israeli society share their passion and knowledge of complex issues facing Israel. Oct. 17, 24: Martin Sieff on "Israel: From Darling to Pariah"

Dec. 13: David Makovsky: "Is 2011 a Year of Decision in the Middle East?"

April 4: Fred Lazin: "Israel's Changing Identity"

Adat Shalom Gift Shop - A showcase of arts and crafts from Israel, with unique Judaica items and music. The shop sells roses from the Negev for the holidays and special occasions. E-mail the Gift Shop for more information. Open during the school year. Wednesdays, 4 p.m. - 6:00 pm;
Sundays, 10:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
