Adat Shalom ListServ

Adat Shalom members are invited to subscribe to the ListServ in order to receive e-mail messages at the PC and e-mail address of your choice. You may subscribe to the ListServ at this link (subscribe).

Archives: Listserve members can view archives of the list (going back to its origins), by going to the List Archives. The first link is to a fairly sophisticated search functionality--if you need help with that, Shamash provides help for using the search functionality--just click any of the underlined words for further help. If you know when something was posted, you can just click on the month listings instead and then have the choice of having the postings sorted by Author, Date, or Topic.

Manage Your Subscription

Once you are registered, you can manage your subscription by using this link (manage). Here you can change your subscription options to receive all messages (Regular), or elect one of several Digest or Index options. [If you click "Subscription Type", you can see a short explanation of all available options.] You can also stop messages when you go on vacation by checking "Mail delivery disabled temporarily." In either case, click "Update Options" for your choice to take effect.

The Web Browser Interface

Subscribers may also take advantage of the web browser interface to (1) read messages if you are not at your own PC or (2) if you elect not to receive any e-mails. To use the web interface, you do need to create a login with the same e-mail address used for your subscription. From the Shamash ListServ "Home Page," you can read the list archives, retrieve attachments, search the archives, post a message from your e-mail address, or manage your subscription through a link.

ADAT SHALOM LIST GUIDELINES

How we use this list is up to the congregation as it evolves. Among other things, this list is appropriate for congregational announcements, discussions of congregational issues (organizational, programatic, and religious), etc.

While we have no "content" guidelines, we have published from time to time some general guidelines that mainly cover "netiquette"--accepted practices for internet lists--rather than addressing the content of messages.

1. Include only *relevant* portions of the message to which you are responding, not the whole message (see below if you have technical problems).

2. Consider posting an "e-mail me for further info" message or a web address (URL), rather than posting a long article (which is harder for digest subscribers to scroll past).

3. Type your name at the end of every message you post because it can be hard to decode the FROM line.

4. Consider inviting responses to be sent directly to you and then later summarizing them for the list.

5. Do not send virus alerts, petitions, or other difficult-to-verify, "forward to everyone you know"-type messages. Most of them are hoaxes, inaccurate, or at least provide no end date or contact info for verification. If you're uncertain, send it to the list manager for checking.

6. Do not send attachments with list messages. They cause problems for some subscribers.
