E-mail Instructions to Captain

Please let me know if you need me to resend the instructions in the body of an email. Also, please note that there may be some people on your crew who don't have email addresses listed and they will need to be called. If you find that they have email addresses it would be wonderful if you would send them to me so I can correct the database.

Please make sure that your crew is bringing a balanced selection of food. Here are some general guidelines:

Obviously you have to scale to the size of your crew. (FYI, most Saturday crews this year have between 24-32 people.) Please make sure to include a selection of kid-friendly foods (mac & cheese, pizza bagels, hard boiled eggs, fish sticks, etc).

THERE IS ADDITIONAL FOOD IN THE FREEZER WHICH CAN BE USED IF IT SEEMS LIKE THERE WON'T BE ENOUGH FOOD.

Something that can make it easier to captain and work at the oneg is either to cut the instructions into tasks and hand them out to the crew, or assign the tasks ahead of time, using the crew's requests for time slots and post the assignments on the cabinets.

It would be very helpful if you would let us know how much wine, coffee, cream cheese, and frozen food we have left, and if any other supplies are running low.

And, please let us know how the oneg went, if you have any ideas to perfect the process, any crew that didn't show up, or any difficulties that we should know about.

Thanks for captaining!!!

Sample E-mail Letter to Crew

Here is a sample e-mail you may wish to use to contact your crew:

We look forward to seeing all of you on ___________.  If you receive

this message but you have switched your oneg duty with someone else,

please let us know (and notify the Hospitality Committee at

“Click here” so the database can be updated).

GENERAL REMINDERS:

Singles are required to provide 50 servings of food, couples are

required to provide 100 servings.  Guidelines for what constitutes 50/100

servings of various foods have been included in the e-mail you received

from the Hospitality Committee and can also be found on the Adat Shalom

website.  Please divide your food contribution into at least 3 serving

bowls/platters so that they can be placed on each of the serving tables.

Also, please label each container of food with a list of ingredients

when not absolutely obvious.  This is very important for some of our

members with food allergies.

If you have an unavoidable conflict and can only work early or late,

please let us know.  The oneg crew is expected to arrive by 9:15 and

stay until all clean-up is finished.

Please respond to this e-mail and let us know:

What dish you propose to bring, and if you can volunteer for one of the

following tasks:

Pick up the bagels, challah, and cream cheese at Ize’s Bagelry at 11622 Rockville Pike

Rockville, MD 20852, (301) 231-0771. (The order is prepaid and the store opens by 7:00 a.m.)

Bring a quart of milk and/or half and half for coffee.

Pick up a bag of ice.

Take the left-over food to a shelter if sufficient food is left. (There

is a list of shelters in the outer kitchen.)

Take home soiled towels, oven mitts, and aprons and launder them for

return in one to two weeks.

Thank you and see you soon.
