Chevrei:
This year we will celebrate our annual Music Shabbat at our services on
Saturday morning, March 9. Our guest this year is Cantor Sue Roemer. Cantor
Sue Roemer holds the title of Cantor Emeritus of Temple Beth Ami in Potomac,
Maryland, which she served for 25 years. She is also known in the Washington
and larger Jewish community for her 25 year tenure as a member of the
Fabrangen Fiddlers with David Shneyer.
Raised as a secular Jew with a strong
connection to the world of Yiddish language and culture, Sue has continued to
explore the relationship between secular and sacred Yiddish music. She has
also become something of a local expert in Chasidic music. Sue has also been
an important and strong voice in helping to develop the role of women in the
cantorate.
Be sure to join us for Shabbat services as we welcome Cantor Sue Roemer to our bimah and our community. There is no fee or registration required for this--come and bring your friends with you! (Music Shabbat has often been a day on which we welcome visitors to Adat Shalom, so if you know people who enjoy good Jewish music, invite them to join us.)
Looking forward to seeing you and singing with you.
B’vracha u’v’zimra (in blessing and song)
(Cantor) Rachel
