The Adat Shalom Choir, made up of Adat Shalom volunteers, sings during the high holy day season and intermittently throughout the Jewish yearly cycle. The group has sung all different kinds of music from European classical Reform settings to contemporary arrangements, and all-female and all-male settings as well. In 2005, our choir will participate in the Washington area Jewish Choral Festival at Strathmore Hall.
Our new Yachad Choir is named for the concept: togetherness. This is a
group for adults and children to sing side by side. The Yachad choir made its debut at the
Rosh HaShana family service, 5765. The group is open to children in 3rd grade
and above with their parents (or other adult). Younger siblings are welcome to join with
the older ones in a family.
For information on joining our choirs, please e-mail Hazzan Rachel or call her at
301-767-3333 x112.
A traditional celebration of renewal at the beginning of the new month, Adat Shalom women meet on a weeknight, in-homes, to share a social potluck dinner followed by study. New members are always warmly welcomed. Watch the listserv for dates, or contact Ellen Ollendorf.
Storahtelling is a fusion of Torah reading, translation, performance art and ritual theater, offered during Shabbat services several times a year. The Adat Shalom Storahtellers develop their presentations collaboratively, using group study of the text and commentaries along with dramatic improvisation. The troupe is led by members of the congregation trained by Amichai Lau-Lavie, who created the concept and founded the original Storahtelling company in 1998. Storahtelling is another way that we explore new approaches to reveal contemporary meaning in the Jewish tradition. To learn more about participating in the Adat Shalom Storahtellers, e-mail Linda Kacser.
