Generally, on the 3rd Friday of each month, at 6:15 pm, we gather for light snacks and an informal, participatory, and joyful service, which begins at 6:45. Featuring traditional and new music and prayers, and involving all ages, the service is jointly led by the clergy and by members. (Please check the Adat Shalom website calendar for specific monthly Kabbalat Shabbat program dates.)
With everyone contributing a main dish to share [see oneg food guidelines], pot-luck Shabbat dinner is served at 7:30 pm. Our meal concludes with z’mirot (table songs) and Birkat haMazon (grace after meals.)
Our goal on these Friday nights is to gather members of all ages and levels of Jewish experience and knowledge. This will enables our children to experience the joy of sharing Shabbat with older members and it gives older members the chance to know and celebrate with our younger members and their parents. Together, we experience how rich and relevant Jewish life can be for everyone, irrespective of age. We all need Shabbat, and we need one another on Shabbat. This is a chance to connect with family, friends and community as we welcome the Sabbath Queen. Together we step back from the business of our work week, savor our many blessings, and delight in wonderful melodies, candle-light and delicious tastes that are central to our spiritual tradition.
In addition to our regular monthly Kabbalat Shabbat program, we also gather
additional Shabbat eves for a catered dinner and a special program. Click here
for specific dates and making reservations.
Taste of Shabbat begins at 6:45 p.m with rituals to prepare for & welcome
Shabbat: candle-lighting, Kiddush, hand washing, & motzi, followed by a
delicious, catered fish/ vegetarian dinner. Bring your own wine, if you like!
