In this course we will read two literary works, a novel and a collection of short stories. The two authors — a religious feminist novelist and a secular humorist-absurdist short story writer — struggle and wrestle with existential crisis while attempting to come to terms with their past.

House on Endless Waters by Emuna Elon. A novel

A novel about loss, love and enduring humanity. An acclaimed Israeli writer reluctantly travels to Amsterdam, and stumbles upon personal discoveries that upend his structured world, and send him on a desperate search for his unknown past.

Short stories by Etgar Keret

Stories from two of Keret’s books; Suddenly A Knock on the Door and Fly Already.

The second and his latest book brought Keret a first-place win of the prestigious Literary Saphir Award. We will read four stories from those two collections.
