High Holy Day Appeal

This past year, we celebrated Adat Shalom’s 30th anniversary. Thirty years of growing from a small circle of acquaintances to a community of over 450 families. Our exaltation at reaching that milestone was not just pride in what we had achieved, but, more importantly, enthusiasm for what we hope to achieve in our spiritual home and the broader community over the next 30 years.

As we prepare for the upcoming High Holidays -- a period of renewal, reflection, and introspection -- we ask that you consider Adat Shalom’s importance to your life, and what you can do to ensure that it remains strong and vibrant.

The High Holiday Appeal is an annual opportunity to sustain and support Adat Shalom by making a meaningful donation to its operating budget so that we can continue valuable programs and develop new ones.

Giving to Adat Shalom is not only an investment in our spiritual home; it is an act of gratitude for the gifts it has provided to us over the first thirty years.
These days, Tikkun Olam – repairing the world – takes on greater significance as we experience ever-growing threats to our physical world and to basic notions of human dignity. Adat Shalom has always been, and will continue to be a strong voice on issues of human rights and environmental protection. Your High Holiday contribution says “yes” to Adat Shalom’s role in these crucial issues.

Our fund raising target for this year’s High Holiday Appeal is $165,000 which accounts for 12 percent of the synagogue’s total operating budget. Because we strive to keep our dues at manageable levels, revenues from dues do not fully cover the financial needs of the synagogue. Without the High Holiday Appeal, Adat Shalom would need to charge about $360 more per household to close the gap between dues and operating expenses.

Below you will find a chart outlining suggested gifts. We ask everyone to contribute at a level that they find comfortable. If past experience is any indication, we are a caring and giving community in which everyone strives to step up to the plate.

After Rosh Hashanah, you will receive a High Holiday Appeal call from a member of the Board or Program Council. Alternatively, many members participate in the Pledge Ahead program. To participate in Pledge Ahead, please mail your pledge using the form at the end of this letter or pledge online on the Adat Shalom website (https://adatshalom.net/hh-pledge) before September 7, 2018.

If you choose to Pledge Ahead, we will call you during the appeal just to say, “Thank you!”

L’shana tovah u’metukah. May 5779 be a year of health and happiness for you and your loved ones and may we all continue to share meaningful times together at Adat Shalom.
